SPOTLIGHT: SAL!

Sal is waiting patiently for his forever home! 3 year old neutered male Middle Eastern Village Dog. Possibly Saluki mix? He is a silly fella who loves to run like the wind and then collapse into fluffy blankets. Sal is the perfect combo of active and relaxed. He enjoys a good romp but also loves to chill and hang out. He TOTALLY loves car rides and chicken nuggets. His fave thing to do is go out for ice cream. He likes Home Depot and Tractor Supply!

Sal is nervous around chaotic situations and needs a stable home with a routine. No kids, a calm dog maybe ok, but preferably another sighthound with a similar personality - Sal likes dogs who run, not wrestle. Cats are ok. He is slow to warm up to dogs so no dog parks (too much chaos). Sal is not destructive in a home. He is crate trained but won’t need one unless you’re slowly introducing him to a home with cats or another dog. He is not possessive of his things. A routine is a must for him. He thrives on predictability - that’s how he gains his confidence. Sal has had a lot of changes in his life and needs to know that the world is a safe and stable place.

A fenced yard is necessary as Sal won’t be able to go to dog parks, and he really loves to run. No underground or invisible fences. We know it will be hard to find someone with a fence, a routine, no dog or one calm dog, and no kids. We know. But this is what Sal needs, and we do this for the dogs. Really hoping we find him the right home by Thanksgiving that welcomes him and makes him feel safe.

Isabelle is a shy girl who was dumped at the WAG kennels. A mere 4 lbs when found, she has now doubled in size! Message us if you’d like to open your heart and home to a rescue.

Sal was rescued by a US soldier in Kuwait. He is currently looking for a home with a fenced yard and people who want a dog-dog-dogging-kinda-dog! He is all desert dog which means he’s slightly independent, pack-oriented, skittish of some things we consider normal, but loves to bond with his own pack and make himself a forever home. He has the absolute best smile! He prances like a little fox. He’s wonderful.

SPOTLIGHT: SHEBA!

A New Lease on Life!

Miss Sheba has a new lease on life considering that several weeks ago she almost died after a huge fall from a first floor balcony of a previous adopter’s home!

Background on Sheba:
She came to the US a few months ago from Kuwait and was an owner surrender. Sheba is partially blind. She seems to be able to see pretty well in broad daylight. In June, she was adopted but the unfortunate accident occurred three days after her adoption. It almost cost her life! Sheba pulled through with the help of caring fosters and medical care. She is now undergoing hydrotherapy rehab and is walking very well!

Want a dog who loves car rides and rides well? Sheba is your gal! Sheba went from DC to Maine over July 4 weekend! Want a dog who loves to walk and go on hikes? Sheba is your gal! She gets so excited when she sees her leash and harness!

Sheba is housebroken and crate trained. She needs a little coaxing and bribing when crating but she does go in it. She may bark for 2-3 minutes and that’s it. She loves her humans and wants to be with them all the time so the safest place for her when you aren’t home or in the room with her is in the crate. She doesn’t try to escape the crate. Or if you have a room that she can hangout in with no steps and no open windows, etc, that might work too. She will jump barriers to try to get to her humans so if you are going to shower, we suggest leaving her in her crate. She doesn’t try to escape her crate.

Sheba can sit and stand on command. She loves doing the Sit/stand exercises! Sheba loves all kinds of humans, big and little ones! One of her fosters had a 1 and 5 y/o and she did fine with them. Sheba loves going to cafes and the farmer’s market too! She’ll lay down nicely while you eat and enjoy your coffee! Currently, Sheba lives with 5 other dogs with her foster family. She doesn’t really play with the dogs but does coexist with them. Sheba is about 50 lbs and 2 y/o. She is on the thin side so we are trying to help her put on weight. She is on digestive enzymes plus a carbo load diet with each meal because of this!

SPOTLIGHT: WILLARD!

Willard is still looking for his forever home!!

He was rescued from animal control in VA! He was on the euthanized list! We think it might have been because of his cherry eye!

Willard is about 2 y/o. He had his cherry eye surgery after our rescue pulled him from animal control. He is most likely a foxhound.

He loves the water! Loves other dogs, fine with cats, and loves people big and small!

Willard is a softie and loves to please. He walks nicely on a leash and also loves to run around in a yard or a dog park.

SPOTLIGHT: XAVIER!

We are beyond happy that puppy Crash got adopted, but now Xavier is feeling very alone. Xavier was surrendered with his puppy friend after being neglected and left outside in a crate. We aren’t sure how often or how long they were left like this, but when the pup was neutered, the vet mentioned he had grooves in his teeth from chewing the crate bars. 

We are certain Xavier will make an amazing solo dog for someone, as he really is just desperate to bond to a friend. But he is currently in mourning as the only friend he had for months has now been adopted. Can anyone heal his emotional hurt? He is good with most dogs, great with kids, but wouldn’t mind being an only baby to an attentive home. 

He’s about 4 years old and has a limp from an old injury on his back leg that was never attended to. He doesn’t let it bother him, and still wants to be everywhere with people. ANNOUNCEMENT: SPOTLIGHT!

Andy is up for adoption! He completed our 3 week board and train program and is back home with his foster now through World Animal Guardians. He was pretty dog reactive but with clear guidelines and a close eye we were able to get him through it. He is remote collar trained and this helps the most with the dog reactivity. We are looking for an experienced handler so that the dog reactivity does not go backwards. Dog house mates would be a case by case scenario- he is in his foster with another dog that he is good with, but there’s no guarantee that he get along with other household dogs. His is currently located in Boston MA. He comes with lifetime training since he completed our B&T program. Please inquire privately if you are interested!

SPOTLIGHT: LOBO!

Lobo has his tuxedo on and he’s ready to meet his Mr or Miss Right! He loves smooth jazz but he’s not a fan of progressive jazz. He digs old R&B, anything by Sam Cook, and The Puppy Song. He likes to watch boxing and dog sports, and he thinks football is silly - because why toss away a perfectly good ball when you could just bite it?! He would love to share a plate of cheese and crackers with a special someone. Lobo just wants a real friend to hang onto his tug rope, skritch his ears, pinch his loose cheeks, and help him bark at deer. His biggest fears are mice and spiders, so he would prefer to sleep in bed with his human so he doesn’t have to be on the floor with those little critters. He’s a slow romance and won’t kiss on the first date, but once he knows you’re the one, he is very protective and loving. He likes to sit on your lap and wants to be the little spoon. Really, he doesn’t have a preference for a male or female friend, but he does prefer to be an only friend. He likes other dogs but wants to be the only dog in the house. ANNOUNCEMENT: HELP FOR ANDY!

Hi Everyone! As you may know, I have been fostering Andy since his arrival to the US in October. Words cannot adequately express how wonderful this boy is. He is loyal, smart, loving, goofy, snuggly, and fun!

Unfortunately he is also fear reactive to an extreme level. You see, Andy missed crucial socialization periods when he was a puppy because of his circumstances. So he has a bad case of fear reactions. I have been working diligently with Andy on training and he is excellent!! But unfortunately we can’t get past this one issue and I think I have brought him as far as I can being that I am not a professional.

So I have consulted with a behaviorist/DVM and we have devised a plan. Andy is going to go to a Board and Train program with an expert in dealing with reactive dogs. I am so excited and hopeful that this will be the last step to getting him over this hurdle and making him the perfect adoptable companion.

But I also have to admit that when I took Andy on, I wasn’t anticipating such a large price tag to making him ready for home living. And while money is no object to making this boy well and happy and able to live his best life, it’s also quite a large amount for the program and behavioral consulting etc. So, as much as it kills me to do so, I am asking for your help to raise 50% ($2500) of the total cost.

BONDED PAIR: CHRISTIAN AND TRACY

Christian and Tracy are comrades. Survivors. We don’t usually have “bonded pairs” but these 2 have become inseparable simply due to life circumstances. Two years apart, on two separate occasions, the universe repeated the same events that led to amazing rescues. Both were rescued from the horrendous Friday Market in Kuwait. Both almost cooked to death in a hot cage. Both were rescued by an amazing team of rescuers. Both were lucky enough to draw straws to come to America with WAG. Neither had foster homes lined up and both landed themselves in a kennel upon arrival.

There they met and bonded in a very strange way. Both are extremely shy and guarded. They became instant friends and brought out the confidence in each other. They now share a kennel, sleep in the same bed, share toys, treats, playtime. Christian had no confidence at all, but when Tracy came, he stepped up his role as her big brother. She admires him, adores him. They love their caretakers and will bond to their people, but they always look for the other’s approval when doing anything at all. They give each other strength. From abandon and near death, shy and alone, these two have found comrades in each other.

Many people adopt a dog because they’re looking for the perfect family pet. Those are not the people this post is for. This post is a plea to all those who understand animals, their emotion, and have respect for the idea that animals should be allowed to come into themselves on their own terms. Allowed a safe place to adjust, learn to be more normal after trauma, and allowed to thrive in a home where love and security are paramount. These 2 are extremely affectionate and loving to their humans AFTER they trust you. AFTER they feel secure. Our human mindset that dogs should respect and obey us BEFORE they trust us is fallible and will not work here. People have tried and failed. These are not dogs that need “trained” or forced into compliance as a pet - these are dogs who need love and security.

REQUIREMENTS: A well-fenced yard, a dog door or mud room they can access at will until home feels like home, and knowledge of dogs being sentient beings with baggage and emotions. Give these two love and security and within 2 weeks you will have the most loyal companions you will ever dream of. Available to VA/MD/DC/NC areas. Currently in VA. Home visit will be done. Both good with other dogs. No small, scary children please. Ages 3 and 7 months. Positive reinforcement home only.

ANNOUNCEMENT: THESE DOGS NEED YOU!

Melanie, Boston and Christian have been in kennels since their rescue. Melanie almost a year, Boston over a year, and Christian over 2 years.

This makes us want to give up. Rescuers are strong people, but to see the same dogs living an unfulfilled life every single day is enough to crush us. When we turn off the kennel lights and the same dogs stare at us forlornly, wondering why they can’t have a bed to sleep in and a house to relax in.... for a year... or years... we are crushed.

Melanie needs a home without small animals and a fence.

Boston needs obedience classes, older or no kids (because he’s rough, not mean), and a fence.

Christian has no confidence except around other dogs, and he gets along with almost ALL other dogs. He needs a home with other dogs and a fence.

ANNOUNCEMENT: MEET BILLY!

**BILLY IS NOT A WAG DOG BUT WE ARE POSTING FOR HER IN HOPES OF CONNECTING HER TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE**

This is Billy. She was just a healthy stray puppy in Srebrenica month & half ago. She was the smallest puppy but was patiently waiting her bigger brothers and sisters to complete their lunches. Was waiting for cats too. But she was the only one who was ‘’speaking’’ with us. They were greeting me each morning in front of the office, wagging their tails & looking for food. Her life got changed in a second.

Car hit her and went over her again. She slept under it. A ‘’man‘’ said she is dead, put her small body in the grass aside & will remove her later. Next day I saw her on the street, curled, dead, wet body. She did not breathe. Communal services were called to come to remove her little body, you cannot bury her in stones around. Two hrs later I saw she moved, she was breathing hardly & slowly, gave her water, called vets etc.

She got guardian angels. She got few shots from the vet, could not move, legs and back part paralyzed, did not drink or eat, had a million flies on her. Vet said to bring her to the neighboring town for infusion & more medicines, if she survives up to next day & there are some chances for her, but he was considering putting her down. She survived. She got a name – Billy.

At first she moved hardly, going in circles, head turning right, hitting everything on her way, I even thought she cannot hear or smell anymore. By days she was getting better, she hears, she smells, goes, even run straight now, but Billy is blind. For now she is in private vet station in Srebrenica, we are visiting her, bringing her food, but her guardian angel pays for her needs there, accommodation included.

Billy the brawler did not bark even once since she got hit by car. During the night she is caged, but she spend her days under the cherry tree. She is getting used to leash, does not like it of course. She is beautiful, mostly looking like mix of German shepherd and God knows what. I know it is very hard to find home for healthy kittens and puppies, but Billy has no chances here.

But Billy survived, if God decided to give her chance, why don’t we do so. I’m leaving Srebrenica in a month, her guardian angel will stay, but one day she will go too. Very few people in Srebrenica, BiH, care about strays. Billy has no future there. She is about 9 months old. Paperwork is not a problem, Billy will be neutered & vaccinated, all paperwork ready to travel to her home. Let us change her name from Billy to Lucky! You may not, but maybe your friends will have a forever home for Billy, I have to try.

ANNOUNCEMENT: PUPPIES COMING SOON

In Adaliya, Kuwait, four boys ruthlessly abused four puppies as onlookers laughed and posted videos to Instagram. Rescuers quickly came to their aid, made reports, and requested the school hold the boys accountable. In an amazing show of progressive thinking, the school not only punished the boys, made them publicly apologize, but also helped cover the vet bills. Local firefighters helped recover the 4th pup who was frightened and got stuck hiding in the steps of a building. All four were admitted to a local vet where rescuers took responsibility for them.

So where are they now? READY to be ADOPTED by YOU! These pups will need loving homes and will be coming to the USA through World Animal Guardians! We need YOU to open your home as a foster or adopter. These small souls have been through so much, and now we ask for you to help us give them the life they deserve!

Sugar

This cheeky boy is Sugar, the most confident of all the pups. He is really lovely and the most tolerant of being picked up and hugged. I think with a little training he will easily leave behind the trauma from his early days. He is really intelligent. And very sweet and loving.

Sundae

This little cutie girl is Sundae. Although nervous, at times, of me as the alpha, she is the favourite of my children because she approaches them eagerly for love and cuddles. She gets on well with all the dogs as you can see, she is trying to get the treat here from her Saluki brother. As with her siblings, she is really food motivated and so will be trainable I think, when separated from the other puppies.

Oreo

This is Oreo, a very sweet little girl-pup rescued from the boys’ school. She is learning to defend her own corner now with her siblings as you can see. Although timid, if she is in the mood she can be incredibly loving to her human family and her loving eyes make your heart swell!

Cinnabon

This lovely little girl is Cinnabon. She has transformed the most from being very timid to quietly confident and seeks out love and cuddles when she can. She has a non-dominant personality and will make a really lovely pet. As with all the puppies, she is brilliant with kids, cats and other dogs.

ANNOUNCEMENT: TWO OLD MEN!

These two old men are homeless close to one of my clients’ houses in Virginia. They had been left behind SIX YEARS AGO at a shack in the woods by their previous owner when he moved and left them there to fend for themselves. Ever since, neighbors have been putting out food for them. With no fence, but no where to go, these homeless old chaps just stay put - waiting and hoping they will have human companionship again. Six years they have waited.

I would like to place these two old homies with someone who has a large fenced yard attached to their home, heated shed or dog house for winter, and no expectations of having a house-dog. They like their humans, but they have never lived inside so will probably never potty train, they like to live alone together - no other dogs or cats. They would like to chill in the yard and greet you when you get home and hang out on the porch while you have a cold ice tea. They just need company, good food, and decent vet care for the rest of their days. WAG will help with the initial cost of vet care for neuter and vaccines.

Jack needs a forever home! Jack was was found abandoned on the streets in Kuwait. This 1.5 y/o rescued pup has a warm and fun personality. He loves other dogs and is good with children. He is housebroken, crate-trained, good on walks, enjoy cuddles, and love chew toys! Jack will be in MD on Nov 3. Take a chance on Jack and never look back!

Pinky

Poor Pinky was tossed outside by her owners once they lost all novelty of a having a puppy! Pinky is about 4-5 months old. She is great with other dogs and cats. Pinky is possibly a Spitz and Pomeranian mix. She is ready for her new forever home in the USA! She will come up to date on her puppy shots. We’re looking for a foster if a permanent home isn’t available yet for her. If you are interested, please message us ASAP.

ANNOUNCEMENT: BRING SUELI HOME!

For 7 months, rescuers have been trying to save this poor soul. Abused and hit by a car, this Labrador had been left out on the street to die in the blistering summer heat of Kuwait. We are in complete disbelief that this pet dog had been able to survive for so long. The street dogs in Kuwait struggle in the heat, but it is unheard of for a pet to survive in temperatures reaching 140F.

Clearly this boy is a Survivor. He wants to live. He was so scared of the trauma that he'd been put through, that he has no trust in people anymore. Rescuers had to track and trap him with a live animal trap, just to attempt a rescue mission. When a volunteer approached the trap, we knew there was hope. Sulei raised his head, wagged his tail, and somehow knew his life was about to change.

A kind man paid for his initial vet visit and X-rays, which show he has a complex fracture in his hind leg. There are 3 clear breaks all the way down his leg. He must have been in excruciating pain. He is currently in foster care in Kuwait, waiting funds to send him to America where he will be adopted and get all the medical care he needs. This fundraiser is to pay for his flight and hopefully some of his medical costs.
